My Life in Pictures

Adventures in amateur photography

Something a little different

I’ve been doing a lot of flower pictures, and while I love my flowers, I thought I’d play around with something a little different for this post. I’ve seen a lot of really nice black and white photos lately, so I decided to change several of my own photos to black and white. I definitely think some turned out better than others. What do you think?

This candleholder came out pretty well.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I think it needs a little more contrast.

I do like this one, it's dramatic.

I love the color version of this photo, but I think the background's too busy for black and white.

This one's better, I think because there's more contrast between the flower and the background.

This one looks much better in black and white than in color.

Another one I'm not sure of.

Raindrops keep falling on my photos

After seeing several other bloggers’ great raindrop photos, I was happy when we had some showers here and I was able to grab a few droplet-covered shots of my own.

I was excited because I was actually able to get pretty close and stay in focus on this flower.

I didn't realize until I was looking at the photo later, but you can see all the moisture in the center of the flower as well as on the petals.

I love this angle 🙂

This flower wasn't as cooperative as the pink one.

One lone raindrop

I thought this was a pretty cool shot.

The rain brought out some visitors.

My favorite photo of the day! I spent several minutes trying to figure out if this little guy was real (it was). It was about as long as my thumbnail.

Crop-tastic!

After seeing on another blog post the dramatic difference a mere crop job can do, I decided to run a few experiments of my own. What do you think?

...and after!

Small purple flower before...

...and after! This is one of my favorites.

Yellow marigold before...

...and after! This is my favorite of the bunch, I think.

I liked this original

Not sure how I feel about the after.

There was too much background drowning out this flower.

The "macro" crop really brings the attention to the details of the photo.

Another too-busy background

Much better 🙂

Last but not least, another baby purple flower

I love how much the stamens pop in the cropped version.

Flowers and Clouds and Candles, oh my!

Yep, I’m still playing around with my newfound love of macro shots. I’ve got a few clouds to throw into the mix this time, though.

Clouds roll in over the office

candle holder

I loved the way the edges blurred on this, but the center stayed in focus.

pink flowers

These gorgeous pink flowers are growing between my driveway and my neighbor's.

yellow bee yellow flower

This little guy flew in as I was taking photo of the yellow flowers, I love that the yellow on him matches the flower.

fuzzy leaf

My mom is growing this fuzzy-leafed plan in our backyard.

More neat leaves from the backyard garden

cucumber

At least we have one good cucumber...

yellow flower

This poor flower was all alone when I photographed it, but it's got some buddies by now.

yellow rose

My grandfather always called my grandmother his yellow Irish rose.

anvil cloud

The clear blue skies everywhere else made this perfect anvil cloud that much more dramatic.

preanvil cloud

This is how the anvil cloud started.

moon

My new zoom can even capture the moon during the day!

iphone

Sometimes it seems like I'm tied to this thing...

Can you tell I got a new camera?

I got a new camera on Tuesday, a FujiFilm T190, 14 megapixels, 10x optical zoom. Definitely not a professional camera, but way better than my last camera, and I’ve been having a lot of fun using it the past couple of days.

frog

This little guy was hanging out in my boyfriend's backyard.

This camera has a much better flower setting than my old one.

marigold

I love how much the colors on this marigold pop, and how crisp the petals look.

I was so happy with the way it focused perfectly on the butterfly flower!

I'm not sure what kind of flowers these are, but they photographed well.

Another crisp-petal flower

I seem to be drawn to the oranges and yellows.

The poor flowers need rain.

I was excited when I saw this iridescent beetle on such a pretty flower.
